چکیده
Abstract The Japanese beetle Popillia japonica is an invasive alien species recently introduced and established in Northern Italy. Adult beetles are very polyphagous feed on vines, fruit trees, forest crops, vegetables, ornamental wild plant species. Eggs usually laid by females moist grassland the summer, singly or small clusters. Larvae roots may be transported soil of plants for planting grown containers. Restrictions movement containers from infested to non-infested areas imposed phytosanitary regulations have a significant economic impact nursery industry. An innovative approach was used exclude oviposition weed mulching available container-grown stocks, testing larval survival application chemical (cypermethrin) organic ( Heterorhabditis bacteriophora Metarhizium brunneum ) commercial pesticides registered European nurseries. high effectiveness method makes it suitable component systems strategy pest risk management, order achieve safe production trade material beetle.

Longevity and fecundity of Japanese beetle (Popillia japonica) on foliage grown under elevated carbon dioxide.
Atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide (CO(2)) have been increasing steadily over the last century. Plants grown under elevated CO(2) experience physiological changes that influence their suitability as food. Previous studies have found increased insect herbivory on plants grown under elevated CO(2). To determine effects of consuming foliage of soybean (Glycine max) grown under elevated CO(2) on ...
متن کاملPhysical Contests for Females in the Japanese Beetle, Popillia japonica
Abstract We conducted field observations of physical competition for mates, in which a single male attempts to usurp a female from another male, in male Japanese beetles, Popillia japonica Newman (Coleoptera; Scarabaeidae). Physical contests for mates were relatively rare, but when they occurred the challenger male was able to successfully takeover females by dislodging the previously paired re...
متن کاملOlfactory preferences of Popillia japonica, Vanessa cardui, and Aphis glycines for Glycine max grown under elevated CO2.
Levels of atmospheric CO(2) have been increasing steadily over the last century and are projected to increase even more dramatically in the future. Soybeans (Glycine max L.) grown under elevated levels of CO(2) have larger herbivore populations than soybeans grown under ambient levels of CO(2). Increased abundance could reflect the fact that these herbivores are drawn in by increased amounts o...
متن کاملTreeshelter Use in Producing Container-grown Trees
Treeshelters were used for the nursery production of Cedrus deodara Loud. (deodar cedar), Quercus ilex L. (holly oak), and Magnolia grandiflora L. (southern magnolia) trees growing in 19-liter containers. Air temperature, relative humidity, and CO, concentration were higher inside the treeshelters than outside. Trees grown inside treeshelters were 74% to 174% taller than trees grown without she...
